Fell in

I followed the diving, didn’t cling to the mast
Held out my arms and my heart to embrace
I probably swallowed the sun too fast

Eager to be a glorious first and not a last
Too eager to start the puzzling chase
I followed the diving, didn’t cling to the mast

Didn’t see the curve of the wave as pale as ice
Rising behind me, the litres of dark blue lace
I probably swallowed the sun too fast

Too late to spit it out and aghast
I turn over pebbles to find your face
I followed the diving, didn’t cling to the mast

Wanted too much light perhaps
I fell into oblivion without a trace
I probably swallowed the sun too fast

The ship sails without me in its careless grace
I followed the diving, didn’t cling to the mast
I probably swallowed the sun too fast.
